About the Business
The story of Withy Grove Veterinary Clinic begins in the 1970s when the surgery was based in Withy Grove House, now a nursing home, from whence it got its name. The practice was sold in the 1980s by the then owner, Terence Bate, to J & M Glassbrook, the vets from Leyland who moved us to our current building on Station Road.
Meanwhile, Michael Clarke, the current owner, was growing up in Essex and surrounded by cats and strongly influenced by the James Herriott books, medical ancestors and a love of all animals, he decided as a teenager that he wanted to be a vet.
Some years later, after qualifying from London university and having a few jobs in the midlands, he ended up working for the Glassbrooks and was eventually offered the surgery at Bamber Bridge to buy in 1990 when the Glassbrooks decide to consolidate. Knowing the clinic, the staff, the clients and the area Michael was more than happy to take on the business.
